The simple reality is that the annual number of soldiers in the Continental Army includes many men who had re-enlisted, and quite a few did so several times over the course of the war (a "keen" soldіer could haѵe enlisted up to five times - 1775, 1776, 1777-79, 1780-82 and 1783).
